1. The short version
- Your answers, results, reports and coach conversation history are stored on your device. Assessments and rule-generated base reports work without an account or network; AI features require a connection.
- We run no ads and no tracking SDKs. This website uses Vercel Web Analytics, a cookie-free page-view counter that does not identify you. Your data is never sold.
- Optional cloud features include syncing and publishing share IDs. Online AI is separate: before the first request, the app asks permission to send the information described in section 4.
- The AI coach and report AI modules are online-only. A coach request includes your message, up to ten recent conversation messages and a structured summary of your results. Report AI sends report facts. Depending on service configuration, requests are processed by OpenAI or Anthropic. SoulType's server stores an account id and timestamp for the free usage limit, not the submitted content.
- Publishing a share ID makes that report readable by anyone who holds the code. That is what the code is for.
- Settings lets you clear local data, remove synced results and shares, or delete your account. Cloud deletion needs a working connection; account deletion reports an error if the server cannot complete it.
2. What stays on your device
Without an account, everything you create lives in the app's storage on
your iPhone: your answers, every scored result and report, your coach
conversations, and your profile settings (display name, pronouns,
avatar choice, language, theme and text size).
Updated assessment copy and content (text only) may be downloaded,
and on iPhone the App Store is asked whether a purchase is active so
Pro features unlock correctly. If you use optional online AI or
cloud features, the data described in sections 3 and 4 is also sent.
3. Cloud features and accounts
Sign in with Apple (optional)
If you sign in, Apple shares your SoulType account identifier and,
on the first sign-in only, your name and email address. The app uses
the name as your display name. Supabase, our authentication and cloud-data provider, stores the
email address Apple returns as part of your account record; we never
show it in the app, never use it to contact you, and never see your
Apple password. You can also use SoulType as a guest: the app
creates a random account id with no name and no email, and it does
so only when you actually use a cloud feature.
What syncs once you are signed in
- Profile: display name, pronouns, avatar choice, type code and focus areas.
- Results: your scores, the report text and the share code of any report you published.
- Match reports you created, and invite rows you chose to publish.
Coach conversation history is not synced. It stays on
the device that wrote it, although the current request includes the
message and up to ten recent messages for online processing (see §4).
4. The AI coach
The coach and the report AI modules are online-only: a hosted model
writes the replies. When you use them, the app sends your message,
up to ten recent messages of that conversation, and a summary of your
results (your display name, pronouns, focus areas, assessment titles and scores) to our
server. Our server forwards the request to OpenAI or Anthropic, depending
on service configuration and availability. That provider processes
the text to generate a reply. SoulType's server keeps a count (an account id
and a timestamp) so the free weekly limit can be enforced. Your
messages are not stored.
OpenAI or Anthropic processes requests under its own service terms
and privacy practices; retention depends on the service and
configuration in use. Before your first AI request, SoulType asks
you to explicitly allow this data sharing. You can
decline or turn off “Online AI data sharing” in Settings to withdraw
permission for future requests. Assessments and existing reports
remain available. Reports are generated on your device and are
complete without AI suggestions.
5. Sharing and share IDs
Share cards
A share card is an image rendered on your device. It is not uploaded
anywhere; you choose where to send it, and what leaves is exactly the
picture you saw.
Share IDs
Publishing a report with a share ID stores a copy on our server so a
friend who types the eight-character code can read it. That copy
contains the report's free sections, its scores, your display name,
your avatar choice, the type code and the completion date (day only).
Locked sections — everything Pro or on-demand — are never included.
Codes are random and hard to guess, but they are not a secret if you
post them publicly: treat a share ID like a link you chose to publish.
There is no expiry date. "Delete all data" in Settings removes synced
results, match reports and shares when the cloud request succeeds. A
cloud profile and sign-in account remain until you separately delete
your account. If a cloud deletion cannot complete, retry with a
connection or contact us to request removal.
Anyone who opens a share can report it. A report stores the share ID and
a reason from a fixed list — no free text, no name, no device
identifier, and nothing that identifies the person reporting. The app
never reads reports back; a person reviews them. Reporting also hides
that share on the reporting device, a choice kept only on that device.
Invite links
The Match screen can publish an invite containing a display name and a
four-letter code, so the person you invited can run the comparison.
It contains nothing else about you.
6. Purchases
Payments are handled entirely by Apple. We never receive your card
details. On iPhone the app asks the App Store directly whether a
purchase or subscription is active, which is how Pro unlocks — the app
does not report your purchases to our servers. Restoring purchases on a
new device uses the same Apple account.
7. What we never collect
- No advertising identifier and no App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- No third-party analytics, attribution or crash-reporting SDKs in the app.
- No location, contacts, camera or microphone access — the app asks for none of these permissions.
- No tracking across other apps or websites, and no selling or sharing of personal data for advertising.
This website sets no cookies. It counts page views with Vercel Web
Analytics, a first-party script served from this domain that records
aggregate visits without identifying you, and loads no other
third-party scripts.
8. Retention and deletion
On your device: data stays until you delete it —
the "Delete all my data" button at the foot of the Settings screen — or
uninstall the app.
In the cloud: "Delete all data" removes synced results,
match reports and published shares when the request succeeds. The
cloud profile and sign-in account remain until you separately delete
your account. A connection is required; contact us if a request cannot
be completed.
Deleting your account: Settings → Account → Delete
account removes the account itself and everything under it — your profile,
synced reports, coach conversation records and rate-limit counters — and
signs this device out. Published share IDs stop working immediately.
A subscription bought through the App Store is not cancelled by this; it
stays with your Apple ID and can be restored. If you cannot reach the
app, write to
support@soul-type.app from the
address you signed in with, and we action the request within 30 days.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct,
export, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and
to complain to your local data-protection authority. You can exercise
most of this in the app already, and anything else by writing to
support@soul-type.app. We do
not sell personal data, and we do not use it for targeted advertising,
so there is nothing to opt out of there.
10. Children
SoulType is not directed at children under 13 (or the higher age of
digital consent where you live). We do not knowingly collect their
data. If you believe a child has used the app, write to us and we will
delete the account and its data.
11. Changes and contact
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update this page
and its date, and surface the change in the app. Questions about any of
the above: support@soul-type.app.
Supabase and the configured AI provider may process information in
countries other than yours. Their own privacy terms describe their
processing practices. Assessments and rule-generated reports work
offline if you prefer not to use cloud or AI features.
